My US visa is valid, but the passport is expired. Can I travel with it?
Yes, you may attach the old passport with your new passport and travel. Please make sure that the name, date of birth, and other basic information in the old passport is the same as in the new passport.
Alternatively, you may also choose to make a new application with your new passport so that you can just travel with one passport.
Can I use F1 VISA after departing the US for more than 5 months?
While the expiration date may not have passed on your visa, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regulations dictate that if you have departed the US for 5 months or longer, you may no longer use the F1 visa for travel to the US and must therefore apply and obtain a new F1 visa. Please see: http://riyadh.usembassy.gov/visas/student-visas-f1-f2.html
For more detailed information about DHS regulations regarding the use of the F1 visa for an absence of less than 5 months, please see: http://www.ice.gov/sevis/travel/faq_f2.htm
