U.S. Consulate General, Jeddah celebrates U.S. National Day

Tatiana C. Gfoeller, U.S. Consul General, Jeddah warmly welcomed more than 120 guests at the U.S. National Day Celebration at the Consulate General in Jeddah on Saturday, March 10, 2007. The celebration featured a concert by the Jazz ensemble, Alvin Atkinson and The Sound Merchants.

The Consul General addressed Saudi Officials, Saudi friends, and fellow diplomats in a short speech that described for them the genesis and meaning of the newest building on the Consulate General grounds, in which they were being entertained. She explained that it is named Heroes’ Hall in honor of the 16 Consulate General employees killed and wounded in the 2004 attack on the consulate and is meant to commemorate their indomitable spirit.

CG Gfoeller was delighted to share a bit of American culture with her Saudi friends through the smooth sounds of that uniquely American musical art form, Jazz. Alvin Atkinson & The Sound Merchants are currently on a tour of the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.
