HRH Prince Khaled Al-Faisal and U.S. Consul General meet in Jeddah, discuss local cooperation

U.S.-Saudi cooperation in the Kingdom’s Western region was the major theme of a meeting Wednesday between American Consul General Tatiana C. Gfoeller and HRH Prince Khaled ِِِِAl-Faisal bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of the Mecca Province.  The two talked for nearly an hour at the Provincial Governorate’s offices in Jeddah.

During the meeting, the Prince and Consul General Gfoeller shared ideas about bilateral initiatives and collaborative partnership between the U.S. and the Kingdom.  The Consul General updated Prince Khaled on preparations for an upcoming “U.S. Culture and Commerce Expo,” to be held this November in Abha.  The multi-day exhibition will highlight America’s artistic, educational and commercial ties to the Kingdom, and is expected to include events for businessmen and women, students and families.

The inspiration for an American culture and commerce exhibition in Abha originally came from Prince Khaled himself over a year ago when, as Governor of Asir Province, he proposed the idea to Consul General Gfoeller.

Also during Wednesday’s meeting, Prince Khaled praised ongoing U.S.-Saudi educational and cultural exchange programs, including religious exchanges that bring Saudi clerics to the U.S. to observe Islamic life in America, meet with religious leaders and scholars, and discuss interfaith relations.  Prince Khaled encouraged expansion of these efforts, as they make an important contribution to mutual understanding and respect between Saudis and Americans.
