Ann Somerset, Press Spokesperson in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs visits Jeddah
Ann Somerset, the Deputy Director of Press and Public Affairs and the Press Spokesperson for the State Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, visited the Kingdom last month to meet with media professionals. During her visit to Jeddah she met with Saudi female journalists to discuss the field of journalism and the status of women in the media. The ladies voiced their aspirations and desires as journalists and made clear their dedication to working in the field and their expectations for a positive future for women in media.
Mrs. Somerset expressed appreciation for meeting so many interesting media professionals and for the tremendous hospitality shown both in Riyadh and in Jeddah. Ann also had a chance to discuss US foreign policy in the Middle East casting aside misconceptions and confusions. She encouraged ongoing dialogue and noted that “Saudi Arabia plays an important role internationally and the bilateral relationship is a high priority for the United States”.
