Puppeteer Karen Konnerth Performs in Jeddah

In every language spoken, since the beginning of time, people all over the world have shared their wisdom through stories. In her stories, puppeteer Karen Konnerth explores folklore, culture, and fantasy to bring imagination to learning.

Performing in theaters, museums, festivals, and schools in urban and in remote communities in the United States, South and Central America, Europe, and Asia, Karen Konnerth writes shows, and designs and builds puppets in a wide variety of techniques, usually performing solo using live voice.

The first story that Konnerth performed was “The Golden Tree,” from Japan, which shows how kindness is rewarded over greed. In the second tale, “The Sandpiper and the Whale,” from the Marshall Islands, a sandpiper who lives on a beach decides to punish a greedy whale by drinking up the whole ocean! She sees that is a mistake that hurts everyone and she mysteriously puts the ocean back so the grateful whale and the sandpiper can then live in peace.

And finally, we met “The Two Neighbors,” from the Appalachian Mountains of the United States, and we see how they resolve their argument by building a bridge instead of a wall.

Calliope Puppets, from New Orleans, Louisiana, USA felt deeply privileged to have this opportunity to perform live to a Saud audience.
